PhD Student in X-ray Optics

FSDO019/2023

The Advanced Multilayer X-ray Optics Group is developing novel X-ray optics to be used with intense, coherent X-ray sources such as state-of-the-art synchrotrons and X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs). Such sources have opened up new opportunities for breaking barriers in focusing, dispersing, and otherwise controlling X-ray pulses in space and time, which enables exciting new applications in imaging, spectroscopy, and nonlinear optics.

About your role:

A PhD position is available to work on novel X-ray interferometer to be used in high resolution spectroscopy and materials characterization

  • Develop and test a novel X-ray interferometer
  • Deploy it for use at the synchrotron and/or XFEL beamlines
  • Develop new interferometric methodologies using lab sources, synchrotrons and FELs
  • Develop and apply techniques to characterize and improve X-ray lenses
About you:
  • Master in physics or a related field
  • Strong interest in X-ray optics, instrumentation and metrology
  • Good experimental and programming skills
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills
